The Hytte gets National Tourism
Award The
Hytte is a Norwegian-inspired, traditional timber mountain
lodge, featuring a grass roof on the edge of the
Northumberland national Park near Hexham, Northumberland.
The Hytte offers high
quality accessible accommodation and is one of only a
handful of properties in the UK assessed as Access
exceptional by the National Accessible Scheme.
It was created as a
place where people of different abilities can all come
together for a carefree holiday. All four bedrooms, as well
as the hot tub, outdoor garden, wildlife areas and patio
furniture are accessible to wheelchair users.
The Hytte was the only
business to be short listed in two categories at the Enjoy
England Awards for Excellence and was awarded silver for the
Sustainable Tourism Award and "Gold" for Access for All
Tourism category
Simon Gregory who runs
the Hytte with his wife Sonja said, "We are delighted to
have won this awards. This will both raise the awareness of
the North East as an outstanding visitor destination, but
above all it is recognition of Sonja's constant efforts to
promote accessibility within tourism and beyond.

Quest 88 press release
05 Nov 2008
Announcing Quest 88's
attendance of enABLE 08
28th - 29th November 2008,
RICOH Arena, Coventry
The stage is set for the
UK's only national consumer show for people with disabilities.
enABLE 08, presented by Centaur Exhibitions and supported by
Leonard Cheshire Disability, the UK's leading disability
charity, is the only show dedicated to people with disabilities
who seek an active and independent life.
To be held at the Ricoh
Arena, Coventry on 28-29 November 2008, the very first enABLE
show will be free to attend and will meet the information needs
of visitors while offering an engaging seminar programme. The
Ricoh Arena, which offers the most disabled-accessible
exhibition halls in the UK and thousands of parking spaces, also
boasts excellent travel links by car and train. That, together
with the estimated core audience of 1.2 million living within a
two-hour drive time of Coventry, makes it the most convenient
venue for this first-time exhibition.
There will be a vast array
of products and services on offer, all aimed at those seeking a
more active and independent life. Companies such as those
displaying aids, holidays, financial and professional services,
training, recruitment and education will be present. In its
first year enABLE is aiming to attract over 120 companies
selling products and services to the disability market, ranging
from corporate business to trade associations and charities.
A major attraction will be
a high profile seminar programme which will be created to
reflect the needs of people with disabilities, providing a
wealth of information on topical issues. Among them there will
be seminars covering Financial Entitlement, Work & Careers,
Education, Holidays, Health & Support and Family Life.
The show's content will be
underpinned by the UK's largest piece of research into the needs
and aspirations of the disabled community, conducted by YouGov.
The results of the research, which will be available at the end
of August, will define the finite content of the seminars to
make them as effective as possible.
"Leonard Cheshire
Disability is delighted to be working with Centaur on the
development of enABLE 08," commented Stephen Elsden, Marketing
Manager, Leonard Cheshire Disability. "Disabled people deserve
the very best advice and information on how they can overcome
barriers and enjoy life to the full. I am confident that enABLE
08 will deliver this advice and information, and much more
besides."
Show organiser Centaur
Exhibitions' Nick Noble added, "We at Centaur recognised that
there was a need for a show such as enABLE to offer people with
disabilities the opportunity to receive every possible benefit
and advantage. We expect to be able to accommodate the needs of
people with all disabilities from across the UK and beyond. We
are determined to ensure that enable '08 will act as an
information portal to ensure that they and their carers get the
very best possible advice to allow them to live their life in
the way they deserve."
Quest 88 will be showing
and demonstrating items from the Draisin range of all ability
cycles on stand 803. We look forward to seeing you there.

Paralympics petition
17 Sept 2008
With team GB having done so well in the Paralympics (have you
been watching?) and with the closing ceremony just over, I'd
just like to let you know about a petition I have just launched
to encourage the IOC and the IPC to consider combining the games
into one event.
I have been
somewhat surprised, but I have already received some interesting
opinions about this idea, it seems that not all are in favour!
If you want to share your opinion with others, whatever it might
be, I will be posting your comments on uhad2bthere because even
if you don't agree with me I think its still important for the
question to be debated.

Kidz events come
to the Midlands
11 Sept 2008
One of the only three UK
exhibitions totally dedicated to disabled children, their families, and
the professionals who work with them.
Disabled Living has an excellent
reputation for organising the only UK exhibitions dedicated to disabled
children, their families and the health and social care professionals
who work with them. The events specifically focus on equipment,
products, and services to improve independence and quality of life.
These FREE events were established
8 years ago with an annual exhibition at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton.
It became apparent that there was an overwhelming need for these events
with people travelling from all corners of the UK, Dublin, Jersey,
Cornwall and the Orkneys.
In 2007 Disabled Living took the
Kidz South exhibition to the Rivermead Leisure Complex in Reading, to
provide people in the south of England with their own dedicated event.
Disabled Living is aware of the
need to make the Kidz Events more accessible. We hope that Kidz in the
Middle at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry will offer people, especially those
in the Midlands, Nottingham, Leicestershire, Mid Wales and East Anglia
an opportunity to attend the Kidz Events without the inconvenience of
traveling too far.
The events allow both public and
professionals to try the latest equipment and products solutions and
talk to the specialist who supply them. There is always a full and
varied programme of talks and discussions covering topics such as legal
and education issues, new therapies, communication and ICT. Many
voluntary organisations are also on hand with information on support,
funding, holidays, publications and so on.
A children's event would not be
complete without lots of fun and features and games, so Father Christmas
always puts in an appearance at Kidz Up North, and 'Fred in the Shed'
entertains our children and parents at the southern event, along with
celebrity guest appearances such as Tanni Grey-Thompson, Coronation
Street stars, and the Reading Rockets. On the sports side children at
the Bolton event, whatever their ability, can join in with the 'Football
in the Community' special needs coaches, in the penalty shoot our area.
Added excitement is a visit from Bolton Wanderers players and their
mascot Lofty the Lion.
Dates for your diary:
